Ben Franklin was born January 17, 1706 in Boston, Massachusetts. Franklin worked his way up in the printing business before settling into the gentleman lifestyle, which allowed him the opportunity to pursue his interest in public service. In addition to being an inventor, Franklin signed the Declaration of Independence and served as diplomat to France during the American Revolution.
