Here we are already in April. It seems like only yesterday that we were enjoying our end of year break, contemplating what the new year would bring (and perhaps recovering from our Christmas party…!).
The old adage ‘time flies when you’re having fun’ certainly rings true for us, with a combination of team learning and development, social events and networking, and partnership building keeping us on our toes (along with providing high-quality legal services, of course!).
Want to know more about what kept us so busy in the last quarter? Read on!
Living our ‘Team Values’
Our Team Values are the values that underpin our relationship with our colleagues and inform the behaviours that we can expect from each other. One of our three Team Values is “Keep learning-teaching – always look to learn something new and pass it on”.
The law in Australia is dynamic and ever-changing and we need to ensure we are keeping up to date with the latest developments. Aside from developing technical expertise across our team, we also like to dive into business and personal development concepts to ensure that we are well-rounded professionals.
Some readers may know that once a year, we like to bring our whole team together in one location and run an intensive ‘Training Week’. This year’s Training Week was hosted in January in Adelaide, bringing together both Adelaide and Sydney based staff for a week of learning, team building and connection.
Our theme this year was ‘Mastery’ which also happens to be one of our Professional Values (the professional values that we expect of ourselves). Our exploration of Mastery was led by concepts from Robert Greene’s book ‘Mastery’, such as apprenticeship, mentorship, social intelligence, and the creative-active phase.
This year we were privileged to have several sessions that explored the concept of mastery, such as:
- Interviews about the meaning of mastery with Anton Andreacchio of Convergen, Jumpgate, Artisan Post Group and board member of the Adelaide Film Festival and Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and Julian Forwood and Bernice Ong of Ministry of Clouds Wines;
- Personal presentations on the meaning of mastery by all members of our team;
- A team strengths session with Brett White of BeLeaders; and
- Networking with the teams from Letcher Moroney Chartered Accountants and Morgans Financial Limited.
Training Week is always a highlight in the Andreyev Lawyers calendar and this year was no exception. It was an engaging week and we all enjoyed getting to explore the concept of mastery and get to know each other better.
Aside from all our Training Week activities, Louise Craven also recently shared her insights on getting the best out of yourself and others with Andreyev alumna Simone Daniells (now an associate lecturer at Flinders University).
Partnerships with meaning
At Andreyev Lawyers, we are proud to have established partnerships with groups and organisations that we feel strongly align with our values. For this reason, we have partnered over the years with several organisations, including Women on Boards and Association for Business Restructuring & Turnaround (ABRT).
Earlier this year we announced our South Australian State partnership with the Family Business Association. This partnership is a meaningful milestone for us, as it solidifies our commitment to providing tailored legal services to entrepreneurs and their families and gives us the opportunity to support the thriving family business community in South Australia.
For us, working with and advising family businesses is exciting and endlessly interesting. We love to work with clients who have ‘skin in the game’ and cheer them on with front row seats to the action.
A great example of this is the story of Ken Hall Plumbers. We were lucky to hear it first-hand at the first of two Meet the Owner events run by FBA at Ken Hall Plumbers’ premises. Ken and Brad Hall generously shared their story of building up their family business from a sole trader with a single van to the multiple offerings they now can provide to their customers.
Our partnership with FBA is a natural fit and we are looking forward to working closely with FBA to support FBA members and family businesses in the community more broadly.
Kasia is a Family Business Accredited Advisor and manages our partnership with Family Business Association. If you would like to know more about FBA or are interested in joining FBA, please contact us or you can contact Kasia directly. We love to take visitors along to the various FBA events for a ‘try and see’.
More fresh content to enjoy
We’ve been working on fresh content for you to enjoy in the background.
Our Instagram account is frequently updated with video Q&As on topics such as “does my trust allow for tax savings?”, “what is a bucket company?” and “what do I do if I’m being underpaid?”. Don’t worry, we’re still posting behind the scenes snaps of our team to show you what we get up to when we’re not working on your legal matters!
For those who are fans of our legal commentary, we haven’t forgotten about you! We have also published fresh articles on our website providing insights and commentary on a variety of topics. Check out our new articles on trust jurisdiction issues, why the governing law of your trust matters, and bite-size chapter articles of our popular booklets ‘What to do when someone dies’ and ‘Controlling a family trust when you die’.
Are there any topics you want to know more about? Send an email to our friendly marketing team at marketing@adlvlaw.com.au with your suggestions. We’d love to hear more about the topics that matter to you and will do our best to work your suggestions into our regular content production cycle.
Growing and celebrating our team
Our team is continuing to grow in 2024. Last quarter, we were excited to introduce two new lawyers to our team. Mathieu Patton has joined us as a graduate lawyer based in our Adelaide office (admission to practice expected in May 2024). We are also happy to announce that Edward Andreyev has re-joined our Sydney team as a junior lawyer.
Our Business Operations team has also grown, with the additions of Bailey Selth and Joshua Mathew-Klose in Adelaide and Nick Walsh and Saahil Naanda in Sydney. Bailey, Joshua, Nick and Saahil are ready to greet you with a smile and a freshly made coffee next time you come in to see us!
In March we celebrated Employee Appreciation Day with donuts and coffee and look forward to continuing to add to our team this year.
Until next time
We are now officially in one of our ‘bzzzy seasons’, with the end of financial year just around the corner. With that said, no doubt time will fly and before you know it, we’ll be giving you another update on all the exciting things we have worked on from March to June.
Thanks for reading our latest quarterly update and we look forward to sharing more with you in just a few months.
Until then,
From the team at Andreyev Lawyers
